About Jody...

Recipient of the prestigious Massachusetts Studio Teacher of the Year award (MA-ASTA, 2003), Jody Harmon maintains a vibrant violin studio in Westford, MA with students ranging from Suzuki beginners to advanced concerto players.  Known for having a unique and disarming way of teaching music theory and improvisation to classical string players, Jody is a frequently sought after clinician at workshops in the US and Canada, national  conferences, and state conventions. In addition to Improvise! and Jazz Improvisation Made Easy (co-authored with jazz violinist John Blake), Jody has developed numerous fun, user-friendly materials and recordings to help students explore theory, improvisation, and creativity.  

Jody’s educational background includes: MM from Miami University; BM from Ohio University; extensive Suzuki training; jazz improvisation training from John Blake, Jamey Aebersold, Rufus Reid and David Baker; and Orff Schulwerk and Dalcroze training.
